Subjects taught at Glasgow Drum Lessons

Please note, that this is not an exhaustive list, but a sample of subjects we can tackle together. If you can’t find the subject you are looking for, please send me an enquiry here.

Styles

I cover many styles of music that I learned playing in different bands over the years. These are, but not limited to:

Big band, Jazz, Indie, Punk, Post-Rock, Alternative, Rock n’ Roll, Soul and Country.

Timing/playing with a metronome

Playing with a metronome can be extremely intimidating if it’s new to you but it doesn’t have to be. It is there to help you and can be used as a musical tool. Also, it is just as important to be able to play confidently without it. With some guidance and effort I can help your timing immensely.

Konnakol

For more advanced timing training I offer basic konnakol lessons which will improve your rhythmic understanding and how you feel time.

Graded Work

If you are currently studying graded music or are new to it and need help I can provide assistance helping you polish up the pieces you are learning or wanting to learn.

Practice

Practice can be an absolute minefield but it doesn’t have to be. Together we can work out simple achievable goals to get you where you want to be.

Rudiments

With 40 American rudiments and well over a 1000 hybrids, rudiments can seem very daunting. They are fundamental building blocks for every player and can really help you express yourself.

I can guide you through what you need to know to get started or help with any existing issues you have with them.

Hand and foot technique

These are both extremely important factors to make sure you don’t injure yourself and also are able to play what you want with minimal restriction from your body. As someone who has played matched, French, German and Traditional grips, I can provide suggestions to find out what works best for you.

Posture and Set Up

Posture and kit set up is extremely important to minimise any risk of injury and to help you play as efficiently as possible.

There is a lot of misinformation out there so you need to be careful. As an advocate for good health (mental and physical) and longevity in playing, I pride myself in providing priceless advice on these matters.  I have a very simple and efficient way of demonstrating these which will set you up with good posture for life.
